Get in touch with details of the equipment you need recycled. We arrange a convenient collection time for businesses or you can drop items off at our Bournemouth workshop. For bulk disposals, our team arrives with secure transport to collect everything on-site.
Free local collectionAsset Audit & Logging
Every item is catalogued with serial numbers, make, model, and condition. For business clients, we create a comprehensive asset register that maps to your existing IT inventory. This creates a full chain-of-custody record from collection through to final disposal.
Full traceabilitySecure Data Destruction
All storage devices undergo certified data wiping using the DoD 5220.22-M standard, which overwrites data multiple times making it completely unrecoverable. Drives that cannot be wiped are physically shredded. You receive a certificate of destruction for every device.
Government-grade wipingComponent Sorting & Recovery
Equipment is carefully disassembled and sorted into material categories: precious metals (gold, silver, palladium from circuit boards), ferrous metals (steel casings), non-ferrous metals (aluminium, copper), plastics, and glass. Reusable components are tested and set aside for refurbishment.
Maximum material recoveryCertified Recycling
Sorted materials are sent to licensed recycling facilities for processing. We provide a full recycling certificate confirming WEEE-compliant disposal. For businesses, we issue compliance documentation suitable for environmental audits and regulatory reporting.

Why Professional IT Recycling Matters
Throwing old IT equipment in the skip is not just environmentally irresponsible, it is illegal. Here is why professional recycling is essential.
Data Security Compliance
Simply deleting files or formatting a drive does not remove data. Professional data destruction using DoD 5220.22-M or physical shredding is the only way to guarantee sensitive data cannot be recovered. This is a legal requirement under GDPR for businesses disposing of equipment that held personal data.
Legal Obligations (WEEE)
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations make it illegal to dispose of IT equipment in general waste. Businesses have a duty of care to ensure electronic waste is handled by an authorised facility. Non-compliance can result in unlimited fines and criminal prosecution.
Environmental Protection
Electronic waste contains hazardous materials including lead, mercury, cadmium, and brominated flame retardants. When e-waste ends up in landfill, these toxins leach into soil and groundwater. Professional recycling safely extracts and processes these materials, preventing environmental contamination.
Resource Recovery
A single tonne of circuit boards contains more gold than 17 tonnes of gold ore. Professional IT recycling recovers precious metals, rare earth elements, copper, aluminium, and other valuable materials that would otherwise be lost to landfill. This reduces the need for environmentally destructive mining.
The Environmental Impact of E-Waste
Electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste stream on the planet. Professional recycling is essential to prevent environmental damage.
Tonnes of e-waste generated globally each year
The UN reports that global e-waste is growing at 3-4% annually, making it the fastest-growing waste stream in the world.
Of e-waste in the UK is not properly recycled
Despite WEEE regulations, the majority of electronic waste in the UK is either hoarded in drawers, sent to landfill, or exported illegally.
Material recovery rate through professional recycling
Professional IT recycling facilities recover up to 98% of materials from electronic equipment, including precious metals, copper, aluminium, and plastics.
Of recycled laptops saves 1.3 tonnes of CO2
Recycling IT equipment saves the carbon emissions that would be generated by mining and refining raw materials from scratch.

IT Recycling FAQs
Common questions about our IT recycling and e-waste disposal services
How much does IT recycling cost?▼
Our IT recycling service costs £10 per unit, which includes secure data destruction (software wipe) and WEEE-compliant recycling. Physical shredding of hard drives is available as an add-on for £5 per drive. Collection is free for 10 or more items; for smaller quantities there is a £15 collection fee. Certificates of destruction are provided free of charge.
How do you destroy data on old computers?▼
We use the DoD 5220.22-M data wiping standard, which overwrites every sector of a hard drive with multiple passes of random data, making the original data completely unrecoverable even with forensic tools. For SSDs, we use the ATA Secure Erase command which triggers the drive firmware to reset all storage cells. For the highest security requirements, we offer physical destruction where drives are shredded into pieces no larger than 6mm. You receive a certificate of destruction for every device.
Do you provide a certificate of destruction?▼
Yes, every data destruction service includes a detailed certificate of destruction. The certificate lists the device serial number, make, model, storage capacity, destruction method used, date of destruction, and the name of the certified technician who performed the work. These certificates are accepted by auditors for GDPR, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials, and PCI DSS compliance purposes.
What devices do you accept for recycling?▼
We accept all IT and electronic equipment including laptops, desktop computers, servers, monitors, smartphones, tablets, printers, scanners, networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls), cables, keyboards, mice, external hard drives, USB drives, and UPS battery systems. We also accept peripheral devices like webcams, headsets, and docking stations. The only items we cannot accept are white goods (fridges, washing machines) and large industrial equipment.
Is your IT recycling WEEE compliant?▼
Yes, all our IT recycling processes are fully compliant with the UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations. We are registered as an Approved Authorised Treatment Facility (AATF) partner and hold the necessary waste carrier licences. We provide waste transfer notes and recycling certificates that demonstrate full compliance for your environmental audit requirements.
Can you collect IT equipment from our office?▼
Yes, we provide a comprehensive business collection service across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, and the wider Dorset area. For larger organisations or bulk disposals, we can arrange collection from anywhere in southern England. Our collection team arrives with secure transport, logs every item on-site, and provides you with a detailed collection manifest before leaving your premises.
Do you recycle for both businesses and individuals?▼
Absolutely. Our recycling service is available for both domestic (individual/household) and business customers. Domestic customers typically recycle old laptops, phones, and home office equipment. Business customers range from SMEs refreshing a handful of workstations to enterprises decommissioning entire server rooms. The process and pricing is the same — £10 per unit with free collection for 10+ items.
What happens to the recycled materials?▼
Recycled IT equipment is carefully disassembled and sorted into material streams. Precious metals (gold, silver, palladium) are extracted from circuit boards through refining processes. Copper is recovered from cables and components. Aluminium and steel casings are melted down for reuse. Plastics are shredded and recycled into new products. Hazardous materials like batteries and CRT glass are sent to specialist processing facilities. Nothing goes to landfill.
Do you recycle Apple Mac computers and iPhones?▼
Yes, we recycle all Apple products including MacBooks, iMacs, Mac Minis, Mac Pros, iPhones, and iPads. Apple devices often retain significant resale value even when several years old, so we frequently recommend asset recovery over recycling for newer Apple equipment. We securely erase all data, remove the device from your Apple ID and iCloud account, and either refurbish for resale or recycle for material recovery.
Is it legal to throw old computers in the bin?▼
No. Under the UK WEEE Regulations, it is illegal to dispose of electrical and electronic equipment in general household or commercial waste. This includes computers, laptops, monitors, phones, and all IT equipment. Businesses have a legal duty of care to ensure electronic waste is handled by authorised waste carriers. Individuals should use designated recycling services rather than putting old electronics in the bin. Penalties for non-compliance can include unlimited fines.
